Manometry
Esophaegal Manometry: It is a test used to gauge the function of the lower esophageal sphincter and the muscles of the esophagus. It helps in understanding the reason for behind problems like difficulty/pain in swallowing, heartburn, food regurgitation and chest pain. It evaluates the functioning of swallowing processes.
Anorectal Manometry During Anorectal Manometry, a small, flexible tube with balloon at the end is inserted in to the rectum. During the procedure, balloon attached to the catheter is inflated in the rectum which aids in measuring the pressure of the anal sphincter muscles, rectum sensation, the neural reflexes required for the healthy bowel movements. This is useful in cases of persistent severe constipation.
